While in Orlando in December, my girlfriend suggested we check out Carlucci’s after seeing it mentioned in an Orlando Sentinel review. We went on a Thursday and arrived sometime around 3 p.m. Carlucci’s was somewhat hidden in a shopping center, but eventually revealed itself. Inside, it was nearly deserted. When we entered, a talkative waiter exclaimed we could sit anywhere.

While in Blacksburg, Virginia at a SANS conference, I thought I’d stop in at Anthony’s Pizza just only a mile or two away from Virginia Tech. Anthony’s Pizza is apparently a popular — although I hesitate to use the word because of the negative connotation– chain in New England. The pizza was absolutely amazing, and I intend to return later in the week. It was brick oven based and possessed a nice, moderately crunchiness to its crust. The cheese was thinly layered, making for a clean separation of each slice, even as they cooled. As I sat enjoying my pizza, I noticed the walls of Anthony’s were populated by familiar photos from the Godfather and the Soprano’s. A small television with sports was on, catty corner to where I sat and behind me. When my meal was concluded I paid John, the owner, and left to return once more during my week in Blacksburg.
While driving around Tampa searching for a dwelling, I happened upon the West Park Village Town Center, which seem to be an integrated shopping area, with a courtyard and clock tower at the end of a row of shops on either side of the road entrance. Behind the bell tower are apartments, townhomes, and regular houses within easy walking distance of the shopping plaza.

After a lengthy hike on a mountain, my father and I stopped at Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria in downtown Mountain View on the way back to Hotel Avante. Fortunately, parking on Castro Street was fairly easy on a Sunday night around 6:30 p.m.

While cruising down the streets of downtown Mt. Dora, my girlfriend and I happened upon Alexander’s Gourmet Market & Pizza Kitchen (no URL), on the second floor of the Renaissance building on 411 N. Donnelly Street. Walking up the stairs, Alexander’s is on the left and when you walk inside, it really is just a kitchen in the back with a work area for preparing dishes and a wood countertop in between.

Last Friday I found myself at Kapp’s Pizza Bar and Grill, located convenient in downtown Mountain View, California, just down the street from Hotel Avante where I was staying with my dad while in town for my interview at Google. Now, of late I have grown weary of pizza places that mention anything about having either a bar or a grill or contain anything resembling the former within the facility. Kapp’s fails to earn an acception, but the amusing waiter antics made it somewhat memorable, at least. Exhausted from a day full of interviewing — yes it lasted the day over — I had not enough strength to object to anything with the word pizza in it.

The other Tuesday I thought I’d check out Nero’s Pasta and Pizza in Gainesville. It’s located conveniently right off 34th street, although fairly far north of the University. Parking was easy, with the parking lot nearly empty, with nothing else open at 8:30 p.m. on a Tuesday.

Having had such success with Satchel’s Pizza, I thought I’d hit another pizza place local to Gainesville, Florida. My friend suggested Momo’s Pizza, so I picked him up around 8 p.m. and we headed on over. It’s located directly across from UF in the UF Plaza. Needless to say, parking is nearly nonexistant not much unlike campus itself.
Being Friday, I thought it would be a good night to head out for a pie. Well, that’s not entirely true. But, after some prodding a group of us headed off in the general direction of Satchel’s Pizza. We were only somewhat vaguely familiar with the directions to arrive at Satchel’s, but we managed not to get lost.
Yes, I know. Soda bad.
