For years, since I have had broadband, I haven’t paid much mind to Internet advertising. Often the ads weren’t overly intrusive. Even the ad-break when reading articles on sites like the New York Times‘ Web site hasn’t been too annoying, since the skip link has been easy to find. (Now there’s a disable link, which fools you into paying to disable ads on some sites.)

However, I have recently found more and more pages I visit have these awful, intrusive, and cluelessly placed ads from Vibrant Media. Frankly, they’re pissing me off. As a result, bye bye to ads. I’m finally installing the AdBlock extension with Filterset.G on Firefox on all the machines I browse the Web on and adding some firewall rules to drop any traffic routing through Vibrant Media. Additionally, someone has written a script for the Greasemonkey Firefox extension that will disable Vibrant Media’s ads by using their own JavaScript against them. Sweet.

You pissed me off guys.

You lose.

I freaking hate these new ads. The Greasemonkey script worked fine for me, so far anyway, until the ad asshats figure out how to bypass the filter.

When did the World Wide Web become the World Wide Walmart is what I want to know ?
