Every semester, never fails. I’m about ready to stop going. For the price of a single bagel without creamcheese at Einstein I can buy two larger, more imaginative, better tasting bagels from Panera Bread on the way to work. It now costs me $1.38 for a single bagel. It’s less than a buck at Panera.

What gives Einstein? You’re about to lose a loyal two year customer that’s bought from you nearly daily whenever you’ve been open. Hint: The privilege of buying your bagels is quickly exceeding the price I am willing to pay.

It’s also interesting to note that Einstein’s gives you cream cheese by default, but does not include that in the list price of the bagel. You’re actually paying nearly $1 more than list price if you don’t specifically ask not to buy cream cheese. (Unless, of course, you want it.)

(Oh, and Einstein Bros Web site requires flash. Eh?)

Um… where are you shopping? I found this looking around on the web, and found another posting mentioning a bakers dozen for $8. Then I called and checked with my nearest Einstein’s (Bay Area Blvd), and that’s all it cost - 62 cents for a plain bagel. You can get a whole bunch (13) without smear for $8. Plus, Panera - which I like just as much - if you order cream cheese with it, it costs about the same.

Oh, it was the Einstein’s on the University of Florida campus. They’re much cheaper at places not on campus, of course. It was still annoying at the time.
