I snagged a couple of WRT54Gs from Office Depot. Now it’s time to play with the firmware from OpenWrt. It looks like I have two version 3.0s. Should be interesting.

I have been using Gallery2 since beta 1 hit the Web. I had been investigating switching to Coppermine, since I preferred its layout over Gallery1, even though it lacked Gallery 1’s flexabilty and filesystem layout management features. Once I was pointed to Gallery2, however, I immediately stopped my Coppermine migration; for good.

Ivn Software has released version 0.6 of their bw_mod for Apache 2. It compiles quite easily on Fedora Core 1 using apxs. I configured it for a specific directory and restarted Apache.

Configuring SSL under Apache 2 is an interesting experience when you have multiple existing virtual domains using NameVirtualHost and want to support SSL connections to one of those virtual hosts. On Fedora Core 1, I moved a bunch of stuff around while configuring things. I ended up with several files in /etc/httpd/conf.d, including 00ssl.conf which has the global SSL stuff:

Printing under Linux has rarely been intuitive. When it’s finally configured properly, it tends to work reliably. First, you have to configure it correctly.

I just test installed Gallery2 Beta 1. The installation is very slick and Gallery2 is quite featureful. I am quite pleased.

I wanted to benchmark my 7410 running RAID 5 with 4 120GB Western Digital WD1200JB (Models: 75EVA0, 32EVA0, 00DUA3) on a Supermicro 370DLE in a dedicated 64-bit slot running at 33MHz. I thought I’d compare those numbers with my new 7500-4LP and see what the differences are. I tested with 2.6.10-ac10, 2.6.11-ck2, and later with 2.6.11-ac6. I recently discovered several people were having high load issues with 2.6.11 and -ck, which might explain the inconsistent numbers I received when testing with -ck. I later decided to completely ditch -ck for server use. The server using an increased read-ahead buffer as suggested by 3Ware. The optimal size I found to be 1536 on this box.

I can finally show Intuit’s Quicken the door. Given the sort of licensing junk they’ve been pulling on QuickBooks users, I’m happy to be gone. It’s too bad gnucash isn’t quite ready for the business crowd, at least UI wise.
