Oops. That’s why active FTP wasn’t working. I knew there was something strange going on. I so rarely need to initiate an FTP session, they weren’t working for six months and I only just now noticed it.

Thanks to the contributions of several people, a new version of polltc is available with bug fixes. It should work on a wider range of traffic control configurations now. From the README:

Sadly, there aren’t any native Debian packages for Tivoli. So, I had to fetch the RPMs and install those. That works, mostly, provided you use alien to transform them into Debian packages. However that’s not enough. You need to extract a post installation script from TIVsm-BA.i386.rpm or the language stuff won’t be properly symlinked. I had to add some trailing fis to the shell script, as it wouldn’t run under my copy of bash.

It seems my old Inspiron 3800’s 20GB Hitachi hard disk is making funny noises. I brought it upstairs to investigate, as it sounded like a fan was clogged. I opened it up and found no issues. And the noise went away. So, I stuck the hard disk back in and powered it up, just in case. And, of course, it’s the hard disk making the funny noises. Sigh.
