I found such a good deal on an 8 port 3Ware card, I couldn’t resist.

I’ll probably setup 6 x 120GB on the backup server running RAID 5 on the 7810. When I can find some cheap 200GB disks, I’ll chain 3 x 200GB off the 7410 I currently have. Then, I should finally be able to do full system snapshot backups. Presently, I only do data partitions. A full OS reinstall isn’t a huge deal since I keep /etc backed up, but being able to restore using Knoppix and my backups over NFS would be even sweeter once I have the space.

I’ll probably setup the 30GB disks as 2 x 30GB software RAID 0 on my file server for additional temporary storage, bumping it up to 60GB from 30GB. In this case, if a disk dies, well, darn. That’s what scratch space is for.
